Bob Boyer

Bob Boyer passed away unexpectedly four years ago today.  He was one of Canada’s great artists and a good friend.  We always had a good time together, I learned much from him, and I deeply respect him.  Along the way we also were able to smoke a few cigars together in Fort McMurray and Regina.  I dug through boxes of photographs looking for one that I could post. Wouldn’t you know it?  I don’t have one.  Someone told me that the National Gallery of Canada had never bought art from a living Canadian First Nation’s artist until they acquired one of Bob’s paintings.  Can this be true?  I am presuming it was one of his blanket paintings.

My last meeting with Bob was on his 52 birthday where I sang a rousing version of his favorite song in honor of his birthday…You are my sunshine…then we indulged in an apple pie as he was trying to control his sweet tooth… A sweet, wonderful man…I miss him.

It is great to see that he isn’t forgotten. Apple pie and all. I forget that he was so much more to other people. To me, he is my DAD. The only one I had. He never wanted to be my best friend, only my best dad.He did that and apparently so much more. After 5 years without him around I am still trying to be half the man he became. Wish me luck
